The Monetary Authority of Singapore does not set the discount rate or key rate. It targets the rate of the Singapore dollar SGD against a basket of currencies. In the absence of a regulator-set rate, the overnight rate is the main benchmark and is determined in the country’s interbank market. The Office is the administrator of this rate and, in order to maintain and develop the rate, issues floating rate bonds, where this overnight rate serves as a benchmark.
